Perrier – Jinnah Hockey Tournament 2009

The inaugural Perrier-Jinnah Hockey Tournament will be held at the King’s Park Hockey Ground on 21st and 22nd March 2009. The event is sponsored by the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and is organized with the help of the Hong Kong Hockey Association.

This tournament will feature the premier division teams from Shaheen Sports Club, Hong Kong Football Club, Pakistan Association of Hong Kong, Kowloon Cricket Club, Valley Rugby Football Club, Khalsa Sports Club, Singh Sabah Sports Club and the first division team from Elite Sports Club. There will be two pools and each pool will have 4 teams. It is a 9-a-side tournament and will be the first one in Hong Kong with cash prize for the winners, runner-ups and all the participating teams.

An exhibition match between 2 ladies teams, Shaheen Sports Club and Elite Sports Club, will be held on the final day, Sunday 22 March.

Details and other information regarding the tournament were announced at a Press Conference on 9 March.

Pittsburgh Tournament Crazy Awesome 16u Fight (Featured on ABC’s 20/20)

This is a crazy fight at a pittsburgh tournament. The refs suked. The parents were heated during this transaction of punches. You had to be there to really experience it. This is a 16u ice hockey team and they aren’t suppose to drop their gloves. After the game people tried to attack the refs. Some people almost spent the night in jail. A short clip of this video was featured in ABC’s 20/20 program on May 30, 2008. Ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at Canada Hockey Place, home of the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks, and at UBC Winter Sports Centre, home of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s UBC Thunderbirds. Twelve teams competed in the men’s event and eight teams in the women’s event. The 2010 Games were the first in Olympic history where the medalling countries in the men’s and women’s hockey tournaments were identical. Canada won both tournaments with victories against the United States, while Finland won both bronze games, however against different opponents. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and US President Barack Obama, through their respective spokesmen, Dimitri Soudas and Robert Gibbs, made friendly wagers on the outcome of the mens’ gold medal game. As Team Canada won, Harper received a case of Molson Canadian from Obama on March 19, along with a case of Obama’s favourite American beer, Yuengling both delivered in person to 24 Sussex Drive by US Ambassador David Jacobson and both to be donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.[1] In settlement of a separate bet, Gibbs wore a Team Canada jersey at his press briefing on March 12, subsequently revealing a Team USA jersey under it.

Legends of Hockey – Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Douglas Gretzky, OC (born January 26, 1961) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player, currently coach and part-owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. Born and raised in Brantford, Ontario, Gretzky regularly played at a level far above his peers. In 1978, he signed with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association (WHA), where he briefly played before being signed by the Edmonton Oilers. When the WHA folded, the Oilers joined the National Hockey League (NHL), where Gretzky won four Stanley Cups, nine Hart Trophies as the most valuable player, and ten Art Ross Trophies for most points in a season.

Nicknamed “The Great One”, Gretzky was called “the greatest player of all time” in Total Hockey: The Official Encyclopedia of the NHL.[1] He is generally regarded as the best player in history,[2] and has been called “the greatest hockey player ever” by many sportswriters,[3][4] players,[5] and coaches. Upon his retirement on April 18, 1999, he held forty regular-season records, fifteen playoff records, and six All-Star records. He is the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season — a feat he accomplished four times. In addition, he tallied over 100 points a season for 15 NHL seasons, 13 of them consecutively. He is the only player to have his number (99) officially retired by the National Hockey League for all teams.

After his retirement in 1999, he was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He became Executive Director for the Canadian national men’s hockey team during the 2002 Winter Olympics, where the team won a gold medal. In 2000, he became part owner of the Phoenix Coyotes and following the 2004-05 NHL lockout became their head coach.
