NHL is the only sport i dont watch, and suddenly i want to give it a try. whats the best way to start gettin into NHL, i know really nothing about it. How good or bad are the Chicago Blackhawks?

I would suggest going to an NHL game before watching any on TV, it works better that way. Make sure read a little bit up on the rules before you go though (I can’t tell u how many times I’ve explained "icing" and "why the goalie leaves the net because of a delayed penalty") they can be very confusing! Youtube is great for hockey clips of goals and games, and in ur case, learning the rules. Hockey fans are THE best in the sports world. (but once in a while ull get people like the guy under me) Just check out the other questions in the hockey forum.
We def. got a sense of humor, (espicially when it comes to Gary Bettman (NHL commisoner))
As for the Chicago Blackhawks, let’s just say u won’t have a problem getting cheap tickets.

hah. good luck young man. start with a local league for players. if they don’t have one, play in high school. if no hs team, look for one in your area. hockey is rare in certain parts of the country so good luck. after high school there is junior hockey, and after that is college, then pros.

the blackawks are pretty bad, how to start getting into hockey is an interesting question. i live in new york and i’ve been a rangers fan my whole life, i’ve loved them through the good and the bad and the bad has been pretty bad. i just love the sport of hockey so i watch to learn things and i appreaciate the skill of the players i’m not just in it for the score, so i would say it all depends on what your personality is. if you can handle "your" team not doing well then you really enojy hockey i say. to start off with i would suggest watching your local team since national coverage is awful (thanks espn, but i have versus so idc i just like barry melrose) you would have the best shot of watching most of there games.

So if you dont watch NHL, or even play yet, then you dont have a chance of making the NHL

Hockey is a sport best watched in person. The best way to get into the game is go to a few games. Chicago is currently one of the weaker teams in the league. It’s a great sport but it is the most difficult of the 4 major sports to pick up. There is nothing like the electricity in the building when a big goal is scored or a fight happens.

You’re two decades too late. It’s boring now. I would say forget the Blackhawks, despite their great jerseys, until Wirtz dies. Watch Penguins games and you’ll get into it. Check out the Caps too with Ovechkin.
I’d stick with the East as play is far faster and exciting than the stronger, more defensive West. Weird how that changed after the lockout.

The best way would be to start out watching games on TV every night on stations like Versus or CBC depending where you live. You should check standings in the newspaper or online and get to learn the players. Then start going to games to really embrace the magic. Also, the Blackhawks are horrible and have no franchise being built at the moment. To really get into the game watch players like Ovechkin and Crosby or watch the Penguins or the Blues (two future dynasties with a lot of young talent).

The Blackhawks do suck, but they’re looking a little better this year, their best player–Martin Havlat, is really good, if he stays healthy the team might do something good. Hockey is a great sport, the reason you don’t watch it is because if you live in Chicago the Blackhawks games aren’t televised there. The owner of the Blackhawks won’t televise games because he’s a dumb@ss. Other games are shown on the cable channel "VS.", but many people don’t have that channel in their cable/dish package. The season starts in October, so you still have time to get better acquainted with the sport. I suggest you keep asking questions on here to find out more about Hockey, and you should go to http://www.nhl.com and check that site out. Hockey’s a great sport, it’s awesome to watch, you should definitely give following hockey a try.

Since it’s the summer, try finding old games on TV or maybe go to Blockbuster and see if they have tapes of old hockey games. Next month, preseason should be starting up, so you can start watching live games then, whether it be on TV or actually attending them. Both are good, but on TV you get commentators to help you learn the game.
The Blackhawks haven’t been playing well lately, but if you stick with the team, they’ll get better. No team stays down too long. If you stick with the team, you’ll be more proud when they finally get better.

well the new season is coming up maybe you can watch some games on tv… it couldnt hurt to watch them on tv so i say thats the best way.. thats how i learned. i wouldnt say the blackhawks are good or bad theyre just average. but i hope you get into hockey cause it really is a great sport!

Getting into hockey isn’t the easiest thing in the world. Try playing it some, either roller, ice or field, just hockey. plus go to hockey websites ( http://www.nhl.com )–always a great place to start–youtube has a bunch of great hockey highlights.
As for the Hawks, yea there not the best team in the world, but there getting there. They might make the playoffs this year but I highly, highly doubt it. Try goin for the Red Wings:D!
