Its bad enough to see Americans playing our sport but to lose to the them is another.
There is no God when Americans are allowed to steal our championship on our home ice.
We are supposed to own those devils in red white and blue and now my Country feels less superior now.
We better win Gold in Vancouver!
Now I know how the Russians felt in 1980.
I think it’s great. Canadian hockey has no class. I’m Canadian and think that the teams that represent our country are embarrassing. Really, did they need to beat Latvia 16-0? Did it make them feel like better men? The US beat Latvia 12-1 and the US is better than Canada (clearly). So I guess Canada ran up the score in a very unclassy manner. I wasn’t cheering for the US, it was more about cheering against Canada and their arrogance.
…I’m sure there are much worse things that have happened to Canada in its history. Many much more tragic things. Hell, I wrote a 10 page paper on the expulsion of the Acadians by the British in 1755. That’s tragedy right there. Yes, it is a country that can be moved by hockey in a very visceral way–look at the Montreal riots after Rocket Richard got suspended from the playoffs, something that even I know about, even though it was long, long before my time. But isn’t it all just a matter of "May the best team win, but I’ll be loyal to my team until I die"? A moment of pride or shame, but nothing eternal. This does perhaps lend some credence to the idea that sports have replaced war in most countries as a way to prove one’s worth and to inspire loyalty. But it’s a sporting upset, something that goes down in the history books as a moment of solidarity, not tragedy.
I’m a hockey fan. An American, yes (albeit one that lives 20 minutes from the border), but I like Canada better than the States in most things–hockey included. A Wings fan first, but I’ll go for the Habs as my second choice any day. American teams make up a good part of the Original Six, even if the NHL started in Canada, and that has never been a shame. There are solidly traditional hockey cities in the States, even if it’s not quite so much in Canada. I sometimes think Michigan has far more in common with Ontario than Ohio–at least we have rinks in every town worth its salt, and know who Tim Horton actually was. But in the end, it’s a hockey game. A sport that we all care about, and should be more a matter of unity than of division. The winners can exult, the losers can curse and weep–but we’re all invested in this sport, be it emotionally, physically, or financially, and so that’s something we all have in common. I’m pretty sure Canada will smoke the US in the Olympics–I’m putting it up to Canada or Russia. Gotta love that Russian team at some level, even if just for how much fun they’ll be to watch.
That aside, I’d rather Canada win hockey championships than the US. At least then most of the country cares. Here, there’s a bit of a hockey culture here and there–Michigan definitely has it, apparently some parts of New England do, too. But most of the country doesn’t even know what a right wing is, or the definition of a shot on goal.

haha "Now I know how the Russians felt in 1980" this isnt a "miracle" its time to accept the fact that there are other countries that are good at hockey too. You extreme patriotism amuses and angers me at times.

Well the person above me is happy but what happens when Canada comes back in 2010-11 and beats The Americans on Home Ice in Buffalo then ill be laughing at how shitty your team is! but how many medals does the U.S have 6 since the World Juniors Started, Canada has 15 Gold Medals.

As a Canada fan attending university in the States I know how you feel, but Canada is gonna win in Vancouver + life will be good again. Give credit where it is due offencively Canada played great, but you can’t expect even the best goalie to stop shot after shot.
I find the fiasco during the Canada – Russia game during the 1987 World Jr tournament more embarassing to Canadian hockey especially as a friend of mine was involved in it

I know we are winning the gold in BC bud! There have been far worst things and better things. One of the better things would be when us Canadians burnt down the white house.
Dude, our country is not less superior. We are taking the gold next year for sure, and at the olympics.

it doesn’t rank very high on that list!

I am proud to be an American hockey fan on this day!
I thought it was a convincing win. After all, Canada was down 2 in the third. USA had them on the ropes, and like all good teams Canada fought back. But remember, this is the same team that nearly beat Canada less than a week ago. The better team on this night prevailed. Scoreboards do not lie.
As for the Olympics, yes, Canada should win that easily. If they do not, it will be one of the biggest chokes in Olympic history.

I am Canadian and thought it was a well played game on both ends. It makes me mad to see people being so hard on those boys.
I’m not so sure if we’ll win in Vancouver, team Russia is looking pretty strong.

A total gut-punch, but look at what happened after 2004 when the Americans won the WJC; Canada rolled off five straight WJC’s.
Time for Hockey Canada to regroup and return the favour next year.
I’d gladly trade a WJC loss for Olympic gold.

It’s a game and dont feel bad because we crush at every sport. AMERICA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just be lucky you only have Hockey because if you had anything else we would crush you at it as well.
Oh and I know how you feel, I felt the same way after seeing the Jays win the World Series in 92 and 93. The only thing thats different is the players for the Jays were American on those teams and the players that crushed you last night were American, not transplants from Canada like the NHL. American players won the WS in 92 and 93 for a Canadian club but AMERICANS beat CANADIANS at HOCKEY at HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! HA HA HA HA.
OH, AND ALL YOUR BEER SUCKS…BLAAA!

I honestly feel a little bad about the whole thing… I mean, now that we’ve taken hockey, what do you Canadians even have left? Moosejumping will have to become the new national sport, I suppose. That is, until we take that too…

What a stupid question. One game between teenagers being a worst moment in history??? You really need to get out more often. It was a game, nothing more, nothing less. Team USA played a great game as did our boys. NO one wins all the time, and for you to say there is no God, laughable… The same God is in the US, Canada has no exclusive claim to God, lol. Michael Jordan missed jump shots, Babe Ruth struck out at times, our boys had a great run and I am proud of all they did and I am also man enough to congratulate Team USA for the deserved victory. To answer your question about where does this rank historically? It doesn’t….
