I want to play college division 1 ice hockey some day but on every division 1 school, all the players had played in a junior league first. Is it possible to get recruited to play college division 1 out of high school? Or do i HAVE to play in a junior hockey league first?
I don’t think so…
But you have to be really talented and get a scholarship to play for a Division I college hockey team (ie. Boston College, U of Maine, U of Minnesota). And most of those players that got a scholarship DID play for a junior team.

You don’t have to.

Its actually the TOTAL opposite. You are no longer eligible to play on a Division 1 college hockey team if you even play 1 game of CHL hockey (Top level Junior). Leagues like OHL,WHL, QMJHL instantly make you ineligible.
However you can play lower levels of Junior which may even have the title of Junior A but the catch is that you can in no way be reimbursed for playing time. You must never be given money PERIOD. If you take a form of payment than you become a professional by definition so you can no longer play NCAA.
The reason the straight out of high school term doesn’t apply to hockey as much as other sports is because high school hockey in most places is just the side show to their Junior teams. Keep in mind your still in high school when you play junior hockey so that is the premier hockey pool to choose from. I know a few players who chose to play on the lower tier Junior teams to retain NCAA eligibility and it was the best decision they have ever made.

You can play JR hockey but not Major Jr hockey…The reason why is Major Jr Players get some sort of compensation and JR C, B, A players have to pay and get no compensation. Other ways to get noticed are playing in prep school. A lot of d1 players are from prep schools…Also playing in high school in minnesota, michigan, Massachusetts also helps out a lot.
What high school do you play for? Have players from your high school gone on to D1 right out of high school? If the answer is no, then more than likely you’re not in a strong enough league to gain Exposure. You need to move yourself to a JR A team or go to a prep school where you can gain more exposure.
