What is your favorite hockey memory of Ice hockey?

Mine would have to be when I was captain in a game when we were playing in a Hockey Tournament, and I scored once and got 3 assists. That might not sound good, but I got to hold the big trophy because we won the Championship :) . Whats your favorite memory?

Attending a hockey game with my grandfather on December 27th, 2000. While some will scoff at this as just a grandfather and grandson enjoying a great game, this means a ton to me for two reasons: Mario’s comeback game (I was the luckiest bastard to even get the tickets as a Christmas gift), and the chance to watch hockey with one of the wisest men I have ever known. Currently my grandfather is battling Alzheimer’s disease.

Seeing Risto Siltanen (Edmonton Oilers’ defenceman in the 1980s) lob the puck high in the air in a game against New York Rangers from behind his own blue line and skate to the bench for a line change.

The puck took an awkward bounce off the overhead gantry and trickled past goalie Eddie Mio into the Rangers’ net.

The goal was given, but by the time the puck crossed the line, Siltanen was already sitting on the Oilers’ bench.

The only time I ever saw a goal sored with the actual scorer not on the ice!.

My favorite memory of watching ice hockey was the Devils vs. The Avalanche in the Stanley Cup. Or when Fernando Pissani scored that tie breaker and Edmonton went to the Stanley Cup.

Three things come to mind. All from my youth.
My original Sports Illustrated with a very young Gretzky on the cover. My Dad said He was the next great thing in Hockey.
Second was remembering 1980 Olympics and how it kind of tried to heal a nation.I loved Hockey after that game.
And watching the Islanders in the Cup games on TV.
Back then we didnt get to see Hockey much and I really remember it clearly.

mine was actually back in high school a guy checked me from behind crushing my head into the boards. i remember looking up as if i was looking up through water but seeing my whole team coming from all areas of the ice and jumping off the bench coming to kill the guy who hit me. just the feeling of having that many people there to back me up was amazing. Also, in my senior year of high school i scored the game winner in double overtime of the championship game. i was looking around at all these people I’d never met with my name spray painted on the back of jerseys and t-shits running on to the ice with my girlfriend leading them.

    Here’s my favorite…

I was in hockey band my senior year of college. In the first two periods we held the other team to 20 shots on goal and we were winning 2-1. Then something happened during the second intermission… the other team came out and scored twice making it 3-2. We were down to 40 seconds left in the game and were still losing by 1 and I had pretty much accepted our loss, but we pulled the goalie and the other team got a penalty. Play resumes with our 6 on 4 advantage and instantly another one of their players gets a penalty! It’s a 6 on 3 advantage in our favor!! So play resumes with about 30 seconds left and we shuffle the puck around a little bit, shoot but the goalie blocks it and it goes into the corner but our guy got to the puck, passed it to the guy out in front of the net, he shoots, he SCORES!! So we celebrate that we’re not gonna lose. Then one of the other teams players comes out of the box but our goalie stays out so we still have a 6 on 4 advantage. We have a face off we take the puck down the ice, two of our forwards come in, one on each side of the net, one passes to the other, the goalie tries to turn but it’s too late… we SCORE!!! Redhawks win!!! That’s the most exciting hockey game I’ve ever seen… we scored twice in 22 seconds to take us from a loss to a win! The crowd was just crazy! :o )

Mine is last year when the Flames couldn’t seem to win in shootouts. Jarome Iginla couldn’t seem to score and Kiprusoff couldn’t seem to stop the puck. Then in Feb they were playing minnesota(the shoot-out champions) and they went to a shootout. Iggy scored and then it was minnesotas turn to shoot. It was demitra (I think). He was an awesome shooter and he kind of fooled kipper, but at the last moment kipper’s pad came out and we won the game!!!

1986 Stanley Cup Semi-Finals. Calgary at St. Louis, Game 6. Flames had a 5-2 lead late in the 3rd period and the Blues scored 3 goals to send the game into overtime, where the late Doug Wickenheiser scored to even the series at 3 games apiece and pandamonium broke out at the old St. Louis Arena! My friend and I were in the front row of the upper deck, above the shot clock. He got so excited, that when he hit the panel to make noise, he shattered the Calgary logo and paraded it around like a war trophy!

    Hey, those are cool!

I have many happ memories of playing hockey, but two stuck out when you asked the question:

    1) The day I scored 4 goals, and my team won 4-3. No bigger thrill.

    2) When my team won the Chamionship game in double overtime,

I have some sad memories, too:

When my team LOST a Championship game 1-0, because the other team scored with 1 second left!

Buffalo Sabres last game of the 1971-72 season. The Sabres had the Philadelphia Flyers at home. The Flyers needed a tie or a win to make the playoffs. Or for the St. Louis Blues to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins. Going into the last minute the Flyers and Sabres were tied 2-2. With 4 seconds left Gerry Meehan scored for the Sabres for a 3-2 victory. The Penguins beat the Blues 6-2 to make playoffs. Meehan’s goal knocked the Flyers out of the playoffs.

two memories stand out. one is a red wings game in 1992 in which my two all time favorites, lemieux and yzerman shared the ice. great penguins team that year (second cup). mario scored the 1000th point of his career that night on an assist to kevin stevens 50th goal, if my facts are correct. the other is my dad taking me to a game when i was about 15, before i was really into hockey. it was in 1985. the wings were still lousy and tickets were easier to come by than in the 90′s. their opponent that night: the edmonton oilers. sadly, i had no appreciation of what i was watching at the time.

I have three 1) Playing with a French Canadian team that came to play in a tourney and was short of players. I volunteered to play with them. They didn’t speak English. I don’t speak French. We have to invent a hockey language to get us through the weekend. And we won the tourney in OT. 2) getting a chance two seasons ago to play during intermission during the Panthers game. It has been the only time women’s hockey has been featured. Everyone loved us. We got several new players too. Girls that always wanted to learn to play and now they have a place to play. 3) When we won the State Championship this past season. That was a huge coop for us.
