@Howe, you may have missed the point of the question. Having the best hockey does not equate to having the best tournament. Any high school tournament that plays it’s final game in front of 20K spectators, and the game is sold out for future years, automatically qualifies as the best tournament in my book. Besides that, isn’t Michigan the state that ended the championship in a tie a few years back? I could be wrong about which state that was, but that state is automatically disqualified from contention for best tournament for that reason.

Right now the the Final Five for the WCHA is being played. When that is done, and all the other conference championship games are done, how does the national championship tournament work? I’m just really confused right now

The NCAA Hockey national tournament consists of 16 teams, seeded 1-4 in four different regions (think of the NCAA basketball tournament, starting with the sweet 16). Conference tournament champs get an automatic bid (Air Force and Niagra won their conference tourneys last week, so they’re the first two definitely in). The conference tournaments will all conclude on Saturday.

The games are single elimination, just like basketball. The only real difference between the two sports’ tourneys is that hockey’s Final Four is called the Frozen Four. The selection show is on Sunday morning!

Canada barley beat the Chezcs, Swiss, Lost to the USA the first time, then had 2 win it in overtime in the gold medal game. CANADA GOT LUCKY.
