Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Thank you! I was looking at the logo sideways. It was the Quebec Nordiques.

I have resaerched. Are you sure it is a NHL team?
It is not the:
Capitals
Canucks
Canadiens
You could be looking a the Quebec Nordiques logo sideways.

Can you make a wall of players in the goal in hockey so there is no room to score? Is this legal?

So let’s say if your ahead in a game by one goal and you just pile players into the net to prevent any other goals… would the play be whistled dead? Would a penalty ensue? Is there a rule against this?

There’s no rule against it, and it’s unlikely to succeed……..
If the 5 defenders joined inside the crease with the goaltender to block the net, that would allow 4 of the offensive players to stand outside the crease and screen the goaltender…..while their hardest shooter blasts the puck at the net….when someone gets hit at 100mph – they go down…after 3-4 shots…voila!…..no defenders left standing in the crease

It’s been tried, it never works, but there’s no penalty for bad tactics

What is your opinion on the Hockey Olympic Tournament as a whole?

Some of the best hockey ever played.

@Ami, you are clueless aren’t you?

Do you think John Tavares of Team Canada-Junior Hockey will be one the biggest stars in the coming NHL draft?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

His amazing performance in the recent exibition game against Slovakia has made him the talk of hockey town.

Where have you been the last three years?

John Tavares took the NHL to court last year for the right to be drafted in the 2008 draft (he was too young by 5 days).

Tavares has been pegged as the first overall draft in the 2009 draft since 2005. He was granted exceptional status which allowed him to join the OHL at 15 years of age.

He’s been the talk of the hockey world since 2006.

As for the game against Slovakia, most NHL scouts are still very disappointed in his skating. He still ranks behind Sweden’s Victor Hedman on a lot of team lists (and Brent Sutter of New Jersey isn’t impressed with him at all).

His point totals in the OHL have NOT set the world on fire. he has never averaged more than 2 points a game in the OHL (something that Patrick Kane did as an OHL rookie 2 years ago averaging 2.5 points a game). Taylor Hall and Cory Hodgson are both averaging more points/game this year in the OHL than Tavares

There’s a lot to like about Tavares, but there’s a lot of room to improve. He’s a very good player, but not a great player. You need to wipe out your competition to be considered great. I’m still waiting for him to wipe them out.

How do hockey players know when to go out of the game?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

How do hockey players know when to substitute and when they are being substituted for? My theory was that they were all connected by a hive mind.

you skate as hard as you can. for the pros, that means their shift is 40-60 seconds, then you get tired at the same time your line mates do, so you change.

for the younger players, usually you’re told to follow your center off, once you see different line mates you know its time to head off

Are there any good club field hockey teams in Toronto?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I am moving to Toronto in Canada. Currently I reside in the USA where playing field hockey is a large part of my life. I have traveled all over America for tournaments. I really love field hockey. My dad’s job is forcing my family to relocate, but I just can’t stop playing field hockey. Please help me. I want to know if there are specific teams for high school students outside of school?

stretch out really really good. goalies need to be flexible. make sure you have them do a light warmup before hand.

How do we increase the popularity of ice hockey in the USA?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Ice hockey is one of the fastest, most exciting and intense sports on the planet. It’s loved in Canada and Europe, but it’s only a niche sport in the USA. Most people in the US don’t understand it or know much about the pro and college teams, let alone the stars.

the best answer is take as many kids as you can to a hockey game. I love hockey and have from the time i could walk. I can enjoy the game very much on tv. I have noticed though that people that dont grow up with it cant on tv unless they have been introduced to the excitement of seeing it live. hockey is in my opinion the most complex of games. but that intensity is just not felt on the tv with out the excitement of seeing it and feeling the energy in person. the other thing that works is share your excitement talk it up explain the suttle things. oh yeah and tell people that their are fights lol. some times that works too

NEW NHL RULE: Explaining illegal and legal Hits to the Head (HD)

NEW YORK — Beginning with tonight’s games (March 25th 2010), the National Hockey League will implement a new rule prohibiting “a lateral, back-pressure or blind-side hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and/or the principal point of contact.”

Under the new rule, the NHL Hockey Operations Department is empowered to review any such hit for the purpose of Supplementary Discipline.

“We believe this is the right thing to do for the game and for the safety of our players,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said after receiving unanimous approval from the Board of Governors as well as the endorsement of the NHL/NHLPA Competition Committee and the NHLPA Executive Board. “The elimination of these types of hits should significantly reduce the number of injuries, including concussions, without adversely affecting the level of physicality in the game.”
