I have watched NHL Hockey since the Origional Six was still around, prided myself on having a fair amount of knowledge of the game, yet ever since these new "Obstruction" rules came into place to speed up the game, all of these phantom penalty calls only slows the game down. I see the most obvious of penalties overlooked and the silly ones called. Where can a fan go to complain about this, as I am almost about to give up watching this sport.

Anyway, I think the decline began in the late 1980’s due to the understandable efforts to improve the flow of the game. I don’t fault the rules, but I do fault the referee’s who call them as THEY see them. Since that’s simply a case of humans being humans, I doubt that I’ll ever see two referee’s agree on anything. That calls for a rewrite of any obstruction penalty.

Right now, I don’t like how the games are called. It’s too easy to get a penalty yet every team has gotten away with calls too.

Where did you play, did you move and to college? Height, Weight. How fast did you run a mile and bench when you played Junior hockey? Stats?

yes I played junior hockey and why would I tell you all that!?

Is there an easier method to doing so? Im pretty interested in Hockey now and my parents are BIG time Redwings fans, but i don’t wanna look like the odd-ball out by not knowing the players of the Redwings along with the other players. If anyone can help me out, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

This sounds so nerdy, but it works:

Play the latest NHL video game and play as the Red Wings.
As you play, you will be reinforced names, positions, lines, and even stats of all the players.
If you play long enough, you can remember pointless trivia such as their 3rd string goalie, the hometowns of each player, which player on the Red Wings have the best speed, etc.

I’ve played NHL games for nearly 8 years, and could probably name at least 10 players on every NHL team w/ their position.

like stickahndling, eye hand coordination, etc if you have any vids that would be really helpful and is there a workout or an exercise that would increase my speed?

For stickhandling and skating the basic drill would be to just set up a cone course and run through that.

For hand eye coordination a lot of NHL players will have their assistance coaches (softly) shoot pucks at them. Seriously. It really helps you when your planted in front of the net and trying to deflect the puck by the goalie.

Another drill a lot of NHL’ers use to work on their hand eye coordination and rebound control is to lay a brick down in front of the net. Stand in front of the net and shoot the puck off the brick so that it quickly bounces back towards you, than quickly try to roof it top shelf.

I’m a 14 year old guy and i play A on a good team. I’m looking for stickhandling and skills with some power skating and conditioning as well. I don’t want a sleepover camp, but I’m just tired of little kids camps.

Anyone know of any good women’s hockey tournaments for an Intermediate level team in or near Michigan???

Lakeland Ice Arena in Waterford, Michigan right on M-59. They have a good girls league their every friday night. Sometimes they have other womens teams from other cities come to play them. I don’t know much about it, but i used to play up their and they would be playing every friday night.

I am getting back into ice hockey after a head injury, and I would like to purchase the best helmet I can to protect myself. The highest price doesn’t mean the best protection. What brands are the best for safety? What features should I look for? I currently have a basic Bauer, child-size large. (I am petite.)

My recommendation for you would be the Cascade CHX helmet. It is probably the most protective helmet out there with technology specifically designed to prevent concussions and head injuries. It is also pretty easy to find, websites such as hockeymonkey or icewarehouse carry them in stock. You don’t win big on style points with this helmet but it does its job. Another alternative is the NikeBauer 8500 helmet, although this helmet probably is not as good as the Cascade in terms of protection. Hope this helps!
